Self-Cleaning Filters Protect RO Membranes Long-Term for Seawater Desalination

Seawater desalination has become a core solution for coastal cities, island infrastructure and industrial parks to supplement fresh water resources. Reverse osmosis (RO) membrane systems serve as the key core of seawater desalination projects, undertaking the task of intercepting high-concentration salt, colloids, microorganisms and suspended impurities to produce qualified fresh water. However, raw seawater contains complex and diverse pollutants, including marine suspended sediment, algae, plankton, organic mucus and tiny solid particles. These impurities easily adhere to and block the surface of RO membranes in the inflow process, causing rapid flux decline, increased operating pressure and frequent membrane fouling. Different from conventional freshwater water treatment, seawater environments feature higher pollution complexity and faster fouling speed, which severely shortens the service life of RO membranes. The whole machine adopts seawater-resistant materials, which can resist the erosion of high-salinity seawater and humid marine atmosphere, avoiding rust, deformation and structural failure of conventional filtering equipment. The fully enclosed automatic operation structure prevents seawater splashing and marine biological adhesion, ensuring stable filtering effect in long-term 24-hour continuous operation. Whether in stormy weather, tidal fluctuation periods or seasonal algal growth seasons, the equipment can maintain efficient filtration and self-cleaning capabilities, realizing all-weather stable protection for RO membranes.

Self-cleaning filters build a solid pretreatment barrier for RO desalination systems, relying on automatic cleaning, high-precision filtration and marine environment adaptability to achieve long-term efficient protection of RO membranes. It has become indispensable supporting equipment for standardized and low-energy operation of modern seawater desalination projects.
